It also helps eliminate privacy concerns with medical records through insurance or third-party companies. With private pay, there is no limit to visits and no required diagnosis. With the flexibility, you are able to seek counseling from once a week, every other week, or even once a month, depending on our goals together.

I believe that each individual should have access to affordable mental health services and financial barriers should not stand in the way of getting the help you need. If your insurance plan covers out-of-network mental health services, you may receive reimbursement, depending on your plan’s benefits. You can use the superbill to seek partial reimbursement from your insurance provider for your sessions.

*I recommend contacting your insurance provider in advance to check your out-of-network benefits and ensure you understand how the reimbursement process works.

Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
